February 10, 2016 - Lethbridge Exhibition Park
Career Transitions is proud to be coordinating the second annual Health Care Expo for students in southern Alberta. The HCE provides Grade 11 & 12 high school students, who have an interest in learning about careers in health care, the firsthand look at the opportunities that working in the health care industry can provide. These students will be hand selected by teachers and school counsellors for showing the skill and passion to pursue a future in the health care industry.
What students can expect from the day:
- Meet hosts working in various health care industries - students can start their own network of contacts.
- Participate in interactive displays - rather than just talking to hosts, students will get to experience a small part of the job and gain a greater insight into what the occupation involves.
- Learn what it takes to work in the health care industry, including the highlights/lowlights of the job.

Why is the event being held?
Career Transitions has been partnering with schools for 16 years to provide classroom career counselling and larger regional events all which help students determine a career path for their future. Recently we have seen a surge in students who are interested in health care careers. This coupled with the ongoing demand for professionals in this industry led Career Transitions to investigate hosting a workshop where students could learn about many careers all in one day. The suggestion was well received by schools. The first year, we had approximately 25 occupations featured and 150 students attended. This is only possible with the generous support of community partners who are willing to contribute time and energy into helping students realize opportunities and achieve their goals.
